Description:
Join our growing team and launch your career in building automation. As an Entry-Level BMS Controls Technician, you’ll support the installation, configuration, and commissioning of building management systems (BMS) for HVAC and environmental controls. This is a great opportunity for recent graduates with a technical background who are ready to apply their skills in the field.

Responsibilities:

  • – Assist with installation of controllers, sensors, wiring, and control devices
  • – Support programming and commissioning of building automation systems
  • – Perform basic troubleshooting and system verification tasks
  • – Read and interpret mechanical plans, wiring diagrams, and control schematics
  • – Work alongside lead technicians and project managers to complete projects
  • – Maintain tools, equipment, and documentation on job sites

Requirements:

  • Associate degree in Electrical Technology, HVACR, Mechatronics, Building Automation, or a related technical field
  • – Strong interest in HVAC, electrical systems, and/or networking
  • – Basic understanding of control theory, low-voltage wiring, and IT fundamentals is a plus
  • – Ability to work safely, follow instructions, and manage time on-site
  • – Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • – Good communication skills and eagerness to learn

BMS Controls Technician (2–3 Years Experience)

Description

Liable Controls is looking for a BMS Controls Technician with 2–3 years of hands-on controls experience to support and lead field work on HVAC building automation projects. In this role, you’ll install, commission, troubleshoot, and optimize control systems—working independently at times while collaborating with project managers and senior technicians to deliver clean, reliable results.

Responsibilities

  • Install and terminate controllers, sensors, relays, actuators, VFD interfaces, and low-voltage control wiring

  • Commission BMS systems: point-to-point checkout, calibration, functional testing, and startup support

  • Perform troubleshooting of control sequences, field devices, communication networks, and programming issues

  • Read and interpret mechanical/electrical plans, control drawings, and sequences of operation

  • Configure and verify BACnet/IP and/or BACnet MS/TP networks (addressing, device instances, basic network troubleshooting)

  • Support integration of common equipment: AHUs, VAVs, RTUs, pumps, cooling towers, boilers/chillers (as applicable)

  • Document changes, redlines, as-builts, test results, and service notes in a professional and organized way

  • Communicate clearly with customers, electricians, and mechanical contractors on-site

  • Maintain jobsite organization, tools, safety practices, and company standards

Requirements

  • 2–3 years experience in building automation / controls technician work (HVAC controls)

  • Comfortable with low-voltage wiring, control panels, and field device installation/checkout

  • Ability to troubleshoot using a meter and basic diagnostic approach (power, signal, comm, sequence)

  • Working knowledge of HVAC fundamentals (airside/waterside concepts, basic sequences)

  • Familiar with at least one controls platform (Niagara, JCI, Distech, Honeywell, Reliable Controls, etc.)

  • Ability to work independently in the field and manage time across multiple tasks/sites

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

  • Strong communication skills and professionalism with customers and jobsite teams

Nice to Have

  • Experience with graphics, trending, alarms, scheduling, and point database organization

  • Experience with VFD control/feedback and safeties/interlocks

  • Manufacturer training/certs (Niagara N4, Reliable Controls, JCI FX, Distech, etc.)
